O Jesus, Son of God and Son of Man, we greet and praise you as our Savior and Lord. Please pour out your peace, your shalom, into our hearts.
In the weekday Gospel recently you commanded those who have ears to listen. These words remind us that we all had our ears touched during the ritual of baptism and the community prayed that we might be able to hear with ears of faith, just as we try to see with eyes of faith. Give us this gift of hearing and of listening expectantly, Lord.
Convince and encourage us once again to be like little children who take it for granted that we need to learn more about you and count on your helping us to hear and understand what you say to us in so many ways.. Sometimes we feel that we have lowered the net many times without very dramatic results. We can feel disheartened, or bored, or with little hope. Renew our trust that you can always lead us to hear and learn new and exciting things about you.
Saint Jerome says that there are 5 Gospels, 4 written ones and one which is the Holy Land itself.. Help us to listen and learn from this place, this repository of Good News. Let it permeate our minds and our hearts the way gazing on the Bronze Serpent brought healing to the Hebrew people in the desert.
Help us to listen to one another and be enriched by our experience here so that we may draw even closer to you, and so that we can go home and share what we have gained with those who will not be privileged as we are to come here.
We all these things, dear brothers, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Amen.
